AUTOPORT project and its research on STAMP safety approach were featured in MIT’s STAMP Workshop online in June 2021. Eetu Heikkilä from VTT gave a presentation titled “Applying STPA in development of autonomous container handling machinery”. STAMP workshop is the main event on STAMP approach, bringing together a global audience of several hundred people. Other presenters this year included the likes of Google, Boeing, MIT, and General Motors.
STAMP is a new accident model based on systems theory. It addresses safety as a control problem, as opposed to the traditional failure-based approaches. In AUTOPORT, the research focused on applying STPA (system theoretic process analysis), a hazard analysis method based on the STAMP model, in the context of automated container handling machinery.
